Presentation of the Peace Gate
Description of the device
The Peace Gate is an interactive sculpture realized by Alain De Clerck, that consists in two large ventilators, one being surmounted by the Israeli flag and the other by the Palestinian flag. The flags float in the air during one minute when two people shake hands in the installation’s center-spot. Online visitors can also see the flags via a webcam and can activate the raising by a simple click.
After the first exhibition of the sculpture in Brussels it will travel from capitals to large European and Mediterranean cities until reaching Jerusalem.

Project’s aims
By signing the petition, each citizen of the world can express his will to see a fair and lasting peace replace the current israélo-palestinian conflict.
This project wants to gather one million signatures to be given to the European Commission and Council.
Strengthened with this support, we request from Europe to invest itself diplomatically in the resolution of the conflict. We request from politicians the holding of an international conference for peace in the Middle East, based on the application of international law and on the UN resolutions.
Genesis of the project
The project has been in gestation for several years but was born in Belgium, Liege, in September 2004. At that time, Alain De Clerck declares: « A few years ago, I put in my head to find a work for this conflict. Since then, I work like a dog on this project that is very close to my heart and obsesses me. »
On the 22th of June 2006, place du Marché in Liege, the artist presents the model of the Peace Gate. It is welcomed positively. It is a work which questions.
